To open schools, academic centres, study centres, competitive training institutions and language institutions across Tripura, providing door-step education to students in remote areas.

To identify educational needs of children and persons in Tripura who are otherwise not catered by the formal school-education system, and to provide opportunities for secondary and senior secondary education through ODL mode.

To design and develop courses, self-instructional materials and other learning support; to organize orientation and training programmes for functionaries of open schooling in Tripura.

To undertake and coordinate educational research and programmes at the suggestion of the State Government, ensuring continuous improvement in distance education quality.

To establish contacts with international agencies in the field of education, keep abreast of latest trends in curriculum development and learning media, especially in Asian countries.

To collaborate with agencies inside and outside Tripura for developing and delivering skill-oriented vocational courses, promoting open schooling education programmes across India.

To maintain standards and equivalence with formal education system while retaining the flexible characteristics of the ODL system. We are an ISO certified education board in Tripura.

To serve as an agency for effective dissemination of information related to open learning and distance education, discharging coordination and clearing-house functions.

To provide opportunities for continuing education to those who missed completing school-level education, offering courses in general, technical, and vocational education up to pre-degree level.

To research, innovate and experiment in open schooling and ODL; to play a nodal role in developing a network of open schooling systems and help states adapt courses in regional languages.

To develop and offer vocational courses and teacher education to students of the open channel; to collaborate with institutions providing learning assistance and accredit study centres.

To remove obstacles for providing secondary and senior secondary education to disadvantaged sections and bring them into the mainstream of education in Tripura.

To provide facilities for studies and research in Indian classical languages; to establish schools for the study of literature and allied branches of knowledge.

To conduct examinations at secondary and senior secondary levels as per guidelines; to develop instruction courses related to various languages and sciences.
